“ I remember living with two of my best friends in an apartment and I thought we were really lucky with our set up. But now if I look back, it was kind of a shit hole. I remember the times where the option of calling a cab didn’t exist. It could be 4 a.m. in Manhattan, exhausted after partying, half drunk and I would not even think of jumping in a cab, because of my tight budget. Good times.”

It got even better: In 2011 Martin founded his own clothing brand FairEnds with longtime friend Ben Ferencz. You can check out their collection here.

The guys from GDS Architects are more than a few steps ahead. For the Cheongna City Tower Competition in the three million city of Incheon South Korea they designed the world’s first invisible tower. The tower itself appears to disappear through a unique optical technology.

Yes- we are a bit late with this one, but we just call it a classic and share it anyways. Director Matthew Frost shot this nice video for French fashion magazine Jalouse, featuring one of the sexiest tooth-gaps there are at the moment: Ashley Smith. Watching it makes us want to throw away our winterboots and have a glass of crémant at a Parisian Bar tout de suite!

The Yellow River Surging Northward Rumblingly - Zhang Kechun

The yellow river is the latest work of Chinese artist and photographer Zhang Kechun. In a series of twentyseven pictures Kechun documents the in-between landscape of today’s China. Heading towards the future and abandoning the past, losing the strong bond to nature that has been so long in the core of Chinese culture, Kechuns pictures seem to question all of these. They are longing for identity in a space where nothing is constituted, yet.

Their name pays reference to their youth in Italy: Discodromo is the italian expression for the runway of UFOs, commonly used in Italian Sci-Fi movies of the 70s. From their pop and disco oriented youth, the duo gained a deep understanding of house and techno while clubbing during the 90s and selected a tasteful mix for this weeks episode!

On this day in 1967 Kurt Cobain was born – AnOther revisited his iconic style in a nice article.

“As Cobain’s celebrity grew, his look, at one time a rebellious swerve from the status quo, become de rigueur as a generation emulated him. One such fan was a young Marc Jacobs, at the time working as a designer for Perry Ellis. His S/S93 collection was inspired by grunge and included oversized plaid shirts, raggedy crochet, and thermals re-imagined in luxe fabrics, much to the repulsion of Cobain and Love who burned the entire collection, which was sent to them by Jacobs.”

“I still remember Documenta 8 (1987) with Schneckenburger. That was when Beuy’s son finished the 7000 oak project. As a 12-year-old, I thought about it a lot. What’s this about? Why plant an oak tree and stone together? I was fascinated by these thoughts and the fact that there are people whose actual job it is to think about these questions.”

Years later, Sabine Schmidt opened up her gallery PSM in an old industrial building in Berlin-Mitte which became a constant in the local art scene.

“Whether it’s consciously rolling around in his brain, Jason Gregory of Makr is living by almost all 10 of Dieter Rams’ principles of good design, but more than any of them, one seems to notice the tentpole principle of “Weniger, aber besser”. Less, but better.”

The electrifying film sees Hughes light up the snow-covered French hills in a bespoke L.E.D.-enveloped suit courtesy of designer and electronics whizz John Spatcher.

(via Jacob Sutton’s L.E.D.
In a city as busy as Tokyo, the so called third spaces are getting more and more important. Neither workspace nor home, it’s here were people casually meet with friends, clients and collaborators alike. The Tsutaya book, music and movie retail store in Daikanyama takes this concept to the next level, making the atmosphere as important as the content of the shelves.

A highlight for us is the concierge service, consisting of experts in the respective fields, guiding you through the well-curated selection.
