Everybody Street - An interview excerpt with Ricky Powell
Photographer Ricky Powell personifies Street and Hip Hop photography since the early 80ies. Ricky shot early stage photos of Baquiat and Warhol, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.
He grew up in New York City and talks about his neighbourhood (“New Jack Cornwall motherfuckers”), his first photography job with the East Village Eye, his personal soundtrack on the street and the way he grew up and became a well known artist. “People were receptive too me, but I never took it too seriously”, he says.
Great talk discovered through Saturday NYC.
