Exhibition: “Audience as Subject, Pt. 2: Extra Large” with Ryan McGinley, Andreas Gursky, Elaine Constantine
Audience as Subject is a two-part exhibition that explores the shift in our perception of the audience member from that of spectator to that of subject. These works of photography, video and other media comment on the larger changes in contemporary ideas about participation in public life.
The exhibition, which takes place from Feb 18 to May 27 at YBCA San Francisco, focuses on three general categories of live events: rock concerts, sports, and political rallies—all of which are sites for large gatherings of people, who in the moment of their collectivity share a common experience as a member of a public.
Artists: Andrea Bowers, Elaine Constantine, Stephen Dean, Jeremy Deller & Nick Abrahams, Andreas Gursky, Alexey Kallima, Gonzalo Lebrija, Ryan McGinley, Rabih Mroué, Paul Pfeiffer, Melanie Smith, and Wang Qingsong.
