Discarded Sketches Get Animated

By putting together various unused drawings, sketches and ideas that didn’t make the final cut, artist Santtu Mustonen created a colorful animation with 90’s visual hints.

Santtu delivers a great video and shows why it’s better to keep your ‘bad’ creations around and do a bit of creative hoarding.

Reinventing Russian Heritage: Artem & Alexey, Moscow
We find ourselves in Moscow for the first time where we get to meet furniture designers and Wood Deed founders, Artem Letunov and Alexey Inshakov.
The restless duo first disliked each other but moved on to set up their own design studio after discovering a mutual passion for traditional Russian motifs and chairs found in the trash.
We discuss their story and how they’ve switched between innumerable occupations, on Freunde von Freunden.
Thank you Kristina Kulakova and Natalia Prokovskaya.

A Summer Pearl in the South
When winter blues hit just look ahead into the summer – isn’t that what we always do anyway? But apart from summer inspiration, a photo essay on Sicily’s Isola Bella, the unique pearl of the Ionian Sea, captures the warmth of the Italian South. Once more photographer Akila Berjaoui delivers a beautiful portrait of one of Europe’s pockets and its colorful legion of vacationers.

Biblical Connotations: Jonas Burgert Solo Show, London
A new body of work by German artist Jonas Burgert is presented in his first solo show in London in over five years at Blain Southern. The exhibition, which among other pieces includes his largest painting to date, presents a world in which time is suspended. The artist’s trademark fluorescent colors appear in otherwise darkly hued and themed paintings that draw the viewer in for further examination. At a first glance they seem rather unsettling for no particular reason as the main themes reflect the dark side of human nature speckled with almost biblical hints.

Will Letter for Lunch
We came across this cool and clever idea for snatching a tasty plate of food and trying out different restaurants along the way. Graphic designer Lauren Hom hand-writes menus on blackboards in beautiful typography in exchange for a free meal at each location. She later posts her work and meal on the aptly named Will Letter for Lunch.
Lauren got the idea after noticing that most eateries overlooked the importance of the chalkboard and the fact that typefaces make everything more appealing. Service for nourishment done the old-fashioned way.
Look at what she writes and eats on her blog.
